About the role

We are expanding our Engagement team and we are looking for an Embedded Linux and Rust Developer who takes charge of developing and maintaining the operating system for our hardware devices. The goal of this role is to develop and maintain the operating system in our hardware and ensure its optimal feature set, performance, and reliability. You will be responsible for setting up the platform, ensuring software compatibility, and driving initiatives to enhance the operating system. The operating systems will be touchscreen-based, and you will play a key role in developing SDKs, building upgradeable systems, and even performing driver development tasks.

You will be part of the team that focuses on the customer journey to help our customers gain the most benefit from our products. This entails everything from creating loyal customers over time to optimizing the way our customers interact with our products.

Engaging our customers with their energy decisions is essential, and our systems will support that. Your role is a key component in ensuring that our system functions as it should. Here you will get the opportunity to build something from scratch without any legacy.

Other responsibilities include:

• Set up and configure the Linux-based operating system on our hardware devices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand software requirements and implement necessary changes.
• Create SDKs and software tools to facilitate application development on the operating system.
• Enhance and expand the operating system by adding new components and features.
• Conduct system revisions and optimizations to improve performance and user experience.
• Understand hardware schematics and identify requirements for driver development.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers to develop and integrate drivers into the operating system.

What we would like you to have

Besides an entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to deal with constant change, we would like you to have:

• 5+ YoE as an embedded developer
• Strong experience in Linux operating system development and customization, Yocto experience is preferred
• Proficiency in both Rust and C
• Experience with BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy)
• Familiarity with FreeRtos or other similar software for developing and deploying Rust applications.
• Ability to read hardware schematics and understand when driver development is necessary.
• Solid understanding of software development principles, version control, and debugging techniques.
• Knowledge of kernel development and experience with kernel module programming.
