Doconomy is an impact-tech startup founded in Sweden in 2018 by Johan Pihl and Mathias Wikström. Doconomy provides leading impact data services to individuals and corporations to help educate, engage, and reduce environmental impact.
Our vision is a sustainable lifestyle for all, and we do it by providing a global standard for carbon-footprinting and tools for a change of behavior.
We believe in collaboration and care to reach, raise awareness to efficiently develop our services. All- in-all we want to enable a future where responsibility and accountability is a way of life.
Doconomy has won several awards - most recently the Nordic Fintech Award -Impact solution of the year. We are a diverse and inclusive team in a company that shares a common purpose and practice flexible working hours with integrity and trust to one another.
What the team does?
As a LCA Specialist you will be part of the Impact & Product Analytics team at Doconomy, and you will be responsible for developing the methodology of Doconomy's 2030 Calculator, collaborating and working closely with other teams within the company.
The work is centered around evolving and optimizing the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) /LCA methodology and supporting calculation models at the core of Doconomy's product environmental impact assessment platform. This will be done together with the calculator's business strategy team, and through engagement with key reference clients and category experts. The work also includes ensuring alignment with existing quantification standards and global environmental regulatory policy frameworks.
Short term, the focus will be on impact factors relating to global warming potential (GWP) and more specifically greenhouse gas emissions generated during the manufacturing of consumer products. However, over time it could include other impact factors as well (water, land use, waste, etc.) and additional impact categories (facilities, operations, etc.). The role is interactive and investigative and your work will be vital to our effort to introduce carbon labelling for products as a new world standard.
What we want you to do?
The role includes a wide variety of tasks. These include but are not limited to:
• Defining system boundaries and new product category relevant parameters focusing on key hotspots
• Calibrating thresholds to deliver the right balance between impact calculation accuracy (based on a company's unique supply chain & product input variables) and ease of use
• Contributing to optimization, calibration and prototyping of methodology and calculation models against benchmarks from key reference clients (and other relevant LCAs)
• Work with open and commercial LCI/LCA datasets (as well as reference LCAs) to source relevant impact factor data (or generate custom impact values) for the fixed values used in our calculation models
• Maintaining and optimizing our own database of impact values
• Reviewing existing standards and regulatory requirements for compliance
Who you are
We are looking for curious and proactive people with a passion for sustainability and a let's-get-it-done attitude. Besides strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, we also think that you will need to be structured, have high attention to details and a soft spot for numbers to succeed in this role.
You can communicate with people across cultures, both internally and externally, and you are able to clearly convey detailed analytical results in a broader sustainability context both verbally as well as in writing.
You are improvement-driven with an ability to work independently as well as in cross-functional teams, and you are comfortable in an agile and fast-paced, everchanging environment.
Here's what we believe you should bring with you:
Minimum 3 years of experience in LCA modeling
Familiarity with LCI/LCA databases (e.g. EcoInvent, MSI Higg, GaBi, CarbonScope) and experience of database management
Knowledge of the textile (or foods), energy and transport sectors
Familiarity with product environmental impact standards and climate change reporting frameworks (e.g. ISO 14040/14044/1406767, PAS 2050, GHG Protocol, and SBTi)
Knowledge of regulatory policy that involves product LCA and life cycle thinking, particularly for consumer products (e.g. European Commission Product Environmental Footprint Methodology)
General IT proficiency and working with Excel (or other data formats) to manipulate data and data structures
PhD or Master's degree in environmental science or similar discipline
Fluency in English, both written and verbal
