The School of Languages and Media Studies at Dalarna University seeks a

Lecturer in Chinese

Description of the Position
Due to the increasing interest in the study of Chinese language, culture, and society among European students, the Department of Chinese at Dalarna University continues to grow. We are now seeking a Lecturer in Chinese for a part-time (80% or more) post. The post is temporary, from July 1, 2012 until December, 31 2012; however, it is possible that this will be extended. The post is based in Falun, Sweden.

Duties
Responsibilities for this post include teaching, development, and planning of language proficiency courses at the introductory level, and advanced courses in one of the following scholarly fields: Literature, Translation, Linguistics, and Business Chinese. A significant portion of the teaching consists of web-based distance teaching, using modern distance-learning technology. Other responsibilities include participation in the development and administration of the subject area as a whole.

Qualifications: Lecturer
The required qualifications for appointment as Lecturer are
1. Completion of undergraduate education (Bachelor?s Degree)in Chinese or equivalent,
2. Pedagogical training or equivalent experience,
3. Demonstrated teaching ability
For this position, pedagogical skills are weighed as importantly as knowledge about the subject area.
Criteria
Hiring criteria include the level of expertise in the areas specified in the qualifications for the post, as well as administrative and other skills relevant to the duties described. In addition, the applicant?s ability to develop and lead cooperation with colleagues and the local community, as well as keeping informed about research and development in the subject area, will be taken into account.

National goals regarding the job market, equality, and society will also be taken into consideration.
Additional Qualifications
Applicants will preferably have a higher academic degree within the subject area and well-documented experience of teaching Chinese at the university level. Since the staff at the university?s language department work closely with one another, the ability to work well with others is a prerequisite for this position. Experience with course development and experience with internet-based learning is also of merit.
