The British International School of Stockholm is currently seeking applications for a committed full-time Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to support students with learning needs. Whilst being involved in supporting learning, the successful candidate will also be involved with everyday tasks, and facilitating the student's participation in all areas of schooling.
You will work within the Individual Needs Team and be supported in your role by our team of experienced teachers. You will need to be flexible, patient, compassionate and confident in your abilities, with the determination to make a positive impact on the students and their progression throughout the school.
The LSA role involves primarily working in small groups. We are seeking someone preferably with a strong background in working with children who have learning difficulties. Previous experience in special education, learning difficulties and speech and language difficulties is desirable.
The role
The main tasks will include:
Assisting the students to access all areas of education and encouraging independence.
Helping the students navigate the physical layout of the school, including classroom, playground, dining hall and assembly.
Incorporating advice from learning support teachers in the student's learning and day to day activities.
Encouraging communication both with peers and with teaching staff.
Sitting with the child at lunchtime to support with eating and tidying up.
Communicating effectively with all staff.
Liaising with parents, ensuring a strong relationship and understanding of needs.
The successful candidate will:
be fluent in both verbal and written English (essential)
be a flexible team player with good interpersonal skills (essential)
be able to work independently (essential)
be physically fit and able to spend long hours on his/her feet (essential)
have relevant school-based experience (desirable)
have experience of working with children/adults with special needs (desirable)
Knowledge and practical understanding of primary approaches to teaching and learning (desirable)
