Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC) is a centre of experimental plant biology in Umeå. It was formed in 1999 by the Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, and the Department of Plant Physiology, Umeå University (www.upsc.se). There are about 180 persons from 32 different countries working at UPSC.
The newly established laboratory for genetic transformation of conifers, part of the UPSC Centre for Forest Biotechnology, is now offering a position for a person experienced in plant tissue culture and transformation to manage and actively engage in routine genetic transformation of conifers. The job description includes all parts of routing tissue culture and genetic transformation work such as culture medium preparation, sterilization of equipment, maintenance of cultures, and molecular analyses of transgenic tissue, as well as general laboratory maintenance items such as order consumables and maintain the organization of the laboratory. The laboratory manager is also expected to support students and temporary project employees with both practical help and technical advice.
Qualifications: The position requires extensive experience of practical sterile technique experience, prior experience of genetic transformation techniques and basic knowledge of molecular biology and plant physiology. The successful candidate can have a PhD degree, but a lower degree is acceptable with an appropriate background experience. Ability to work independently is necessary. Good communication skills as well as good English language speaking and writing skills are required.
