Moderna Museet is a Swedish government funded museum, with responsibility for the national collection of all forms of modern and contemporary art. Description

It is our pleasure to announce a position within a new and exciting European research project: Green Atmospheric Plasma Generated Monoatomic OXYgen Technology for Restoration of the Works of Art (MOXY), coordinated by Ghent University, Belgium. The MOXY project aims to be at the cutting edge of the green transformation in cultural heritage conservation and will develop highly innovative contactless atomic oxygen technology for cleaning and restoration of works of art and diverse tangible cultural heritage objects in a greener, more effective, and sustainable way. The MOXY project is funded by the European Commission's Horizon Europe in the call Green technology for Cultural Heritage and Moderna Museet is one of several international partners in the project. Moderna Museet is looking for a conservator with at least two years' experience in plastics conservation, to carry out the project for four years along with the sculpture and metal conservator (project coordinator) and paper conservator. The main tasks will include the development and implementation of experiments (including sample preparation), as well as carrying out analysis and results interpretation in collaboration with scientists and cultural heritage stakeholders participating in the project. Additional tasks will relate to the communication of the project's progress and outcomes, both internally and to external audiences. Other duties can be assigned as the need arises throughout the project.

Work schedule: at Moderna Museet, 20 hours/week. The position can include travel and occasional evening or weekend work. The working language of the project is English.

The conservation department is situated on Skeppsholmen, an island in the center of Stockholm, and currently consists of a head conservator and eight conservators with specialties in photographs, paintings, paper and sculpture. Minimum qualifications / Requirements:

• Master's degree from a recognized university level conservation training program.
• Minimum two years experience after fullfilled examination.
• Specialisation in plastics.
• Scientific background or orientation in your conservation education; interest in and familiar with preparing samples for analysis.
• Experience of collaborating in research projects.
• Experience of practical conservation with a focus on new methods and materials, e.g. gels, as well as cleaning issues and methodologies.
• Knowledge and understanding of different treatment options, underlying ethics and reasoning.
• Documented ability to plan and perform a variety of complex conservation treatments to a high standard.
• Experience in communication, both spoken and written.
• Very good proficiency in English, both spoken and written.

Merits:

• Knowledge of material areas such as paper, photography or digital printing.

• Good proficiency in Swedish, both spoken and written.
