Stockholm University is looking for a science communicator with a focus on climate and environment. The position is based at the unit for Atmospheric Science of the Department of Environmental Science (ACES) and the Bolin Centre for Climate research. The Bolin Centre is a multi-disciplinary consortium of over 400 scientists in Sweden that conduct research and graduate education related to the Earth's climate.

The mission of the Bolin Centre is to create and communicate fundamental knowledge about the coupled climate system and its interactions with life on Earth in the past, present and future, and to connect this knowledge to effective societal actions. We wish to formulate a new strategy for external communication to optimally answer to the growing demand for our expertise by various stakeholders, with a particular focus on future generations of experts, decision-makers and members of society. To facilitate this work, we are looking to hire a communicator who will be responsible for the development, planning and execution of both internal and external communications. The communicator will join the directorate of the Bolin Centre together with the director, vice-director and coordinator. Besides the communication activities of the Bolin Centre, the communicator will be working on the dissemination activities of the Horizon 2020 project FORCeS to maximize the impact of the results obtained within this project.

Main responsibilities
The main responsibilities are related to the external communication of the Bolin Centre and FORCeS and include

• Designing the communication strategy for the Bolin Centre for the period 2024-2027
• Identifying the key stakeholders and dissemination as well as outreach channels for FORCeS
• Conducting and coordinating the communication activities of the Bolin Centre and FORCeS, facilitating communication by the centre membership and FORCeS partners
• Producing communication materials, including texts on the website and social media
• Participating in organizing, documenting and marketing events.

Qualification requirements
We are looking for someone with:

• Relevant background and practical experience in communication, preferably within science communication or a similar specialist field
• Ability to plan strategic communication activities to maximize the impact of research and education within the society
• Ability to express complex topics in an easy to understand and interesting way
• Capability to take initiative, work independently as well as collaboratively
• Flexibility, ability to handle stress and prioritize, and a service-oriented mindset
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in Swedish and English
• An interest towards science and research, particularly climate-related and environmental questions
• Special emphasis will be put on personal qualities and fit for the work environment, in particular ability to collaborate.

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, (50 % for the Bolin Centre directorate and 50 % for the FORCeS project) for 12 months with a flexible starting date, starting in September 2023 the latest. Salaries at Stockholm University are determined individually.
