Its objective is to strengthen democratic institutions and processes. International IDEA acts as a catalyst for democracy building by providing knowledge resources, policy proposals and supporting democratic reforms in response to specific national requests. It works together with policy makers, governments, UN organizations and agencies and regional organizations engaged in the field of democracy building.
Qualifications and skills
Level and type of formal education:
• University degree in communications, journalism, international relations or a related subject.
Professional experience:
• Minimum of three (3) years professional experience in social media as a journalist or writer in communications for development, preferably in an international context.
Functional competencies:
• Excellent organisational skills, ability to handle confidential information and to work in a multicultural team.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, written and spoken.
• Proven experience in preparing and writing material for social media channels and a range of traditional media and for the web.
• Experience in web publishing systems (Content Management Systems)
• Photography/multimedia skills an asset
• Knowledge of international media and familiarity with mainstream and specialized media channels.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work both independently, with minimum supervision and in teams.
• Ability to operate effectively in a multi-cultural environment and be gender-sensitive.
Work relationships:
• Ability to appreciate diversity and work as part of a team in such an environment.
• Ongoing collaborative contact with International IDEA offices (sub regional, regional and HQ).
Independence of work:
• Independent work within the general framework of International IDEA's Strategy and Programme of Operations.
• General International IDEA guidelines apply.
Difficulty of work:
• The incumbent is expected to show a high level of professionalism, personal initiative and creativity. S/he should be able to work under tight deadlines and to cope with situations of stress and in addition should be willing to travel on official missions.
Language skills:
• English: Fluent written and oral
• Knowledge of other widely spoken languages (in particular Spanish, Arabic, Swedish or French) would be an asset.
Computer skills:
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, databases, internet and web search tools.
• Knowledge of Dreamweaver, Photo Shop, InDesign and Adobe Acrobat would be an asset.
Main functions of the post:
• Under the supervision of the Communication Manager, implement International IDEA's social media strategy for all social media channels.
• Develop/draft both corporate and programme communication material and transposing this material into web and social media formats.
• Coordinate the content development and implementation of IDEA's quarterly digital newsletter.
• Assist in the implementation of International IDEA's communications strategy and implementation that supports the Institute's mission, goals and objectives, ensuring consistent messaging for all internal and external communications.
