Scientist - Material Science

The Role
The Product Development division at AstraZeneca is looking for an enthusiastic Scientist in Material Science who will provide input in the area of material characterization and understanding during the formulation development of oral drug products.
The role is primarily laboratory based, where a combination of theoretical and technical expertise in material science is a must together with a good understanding of pharmaceutical development and manufacturing processes.
Skills of importance required for this role are as following:
• A good understanding of powders, including analysis techniques for determining physical properties, eg particle size and particle size distribution, shape, density and powder rheology.
• Knowledge of imaging techniques, eg SEM and optical microscopy.
• An understanding of excipients used for pharmaceutical development.
• An understanding of solid state properties and associated phase transitions of API and excipients, and how these link to formulation stability and process ability. A knowledge of techniques to characterize this e.g. DSC, GVS, TGA and vibrational spectroscopy etc. is an advantage.
The successful applicant will be given the opportunity to contribute to the development of the scientific area via material science networks. This is a unique opportunity for an innovative and motivated Material Science expert to join the Product Development team, at AstraZeneca site in Mölndal.
Requirements
We are looking for M.Sc graduates from pharmaceutics, chemistry, physics or engineers with relevant skills. Experience of laboratory work is a requirement.
