An independent Junior Researcher (‘Forskarassistent’) position in Experimental Cancer Research
The Faculty of Medicine at Umeå University currently comprises 13 departments and 3 research centers. The faculty is responsible for the education of students at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level, overseeing a comprehensive program of research within approximately 80 different areas of medical research. The Faculty of Medicine has ~3,000 students registered at the undergraduate level, in addition to approximately 450 postgraduate students. Our employment at the present time includes ~500 teaching and research faculty, together with a similar number of technical and administrative personnel.
Umeå University is now accepting applications within the area of Experimental Cancer Research. We seek a Junior researcher to develop an active and independent research program to investigate mechanisms for cancer development and/or treatment at the molecular level.
The advertised position is a four year Junior Researcher appointment and the successful candidate is expected to establish a competitive research group. The position is based at the Faculty of Medicine but the department affiliation and location of the successful candidate will be decided upon awarding of the position.
Eligibility
To qualify for the position (Forskarassistent in Swedish) the applicant must hold a Ph.D. degree or have corresponding academic qualifications. Priority will be given to applicants who completed their Ph.D. within five years of the application deadline. Basis for assessment
The candidates will be evaluated firstly on their scientific merits. In addition, the teaching capabilities of the applicants, although not a requirement, will be considered. Administrative and communication skills together with experience in supervision are also desirable. However, particular importance will be placed on the scientific merit of the candidates and the ranking and final decisions will be based primarily on the research skills documented by publications in international peer reviewed journals and competence of the candidate. The successful applicant is expected to have a solid experience of research in molecular biology focused at tumor biology.
