The Local is Sweden's most-read source of news and information in English and one of the country's largest news websites, with over 600,000 unique visitors a month. We are currently seeking a journalist to join our team at our office in Stockholm?s Södermalm.
Working at The Local is the ultimate job for an internationally minded, driven, ambitious and clued-up journalist.
As The Local continues its expansion across Europe, you will be joining a young, dynamic and growing team that is exploiting the web to its full potential.
What we expect from you:
• An exceptional level of written and spoken English (native speaker or equivalent).
• Excellent Swedish skills.
• The ability to write clear, concise and engaging news stories and features.
• Experience of translating from Swedish to English and an ability to turn flowing Swedish prose into equally flowing English prose.
• At least two years? experience in an editorial role.
• A knowledge of journalistic ethics and good practice.
• A good knowledge of Swedish society, politics and institutions.
• Curiosity; a desire to lift the lid on major issues affecting society.
• Flexibility; the ability to work some weekends, public holidays and unsocial hours as needed, sometimes at short notice.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with social media.
• Familiarity with blogging, online publishing, sound recording and photo editing are an advantage.
• A knowledge of major languages other than English and Swedish (particularly German, French, Italian and Spanish) would be useful.
