Joining Specialist - Painted Body and Closures

Painted Body & closures department is responsible for the development of body structures (platform and top-hat), doors, lids, door mechanisms and surface treatment systems for all Volvo cars. Development work is mainly conducted within the department and in close corporation with manufacturing, suppliers and external partners. The group Strategy, Concepts and advanced engineering group is a team of 13 persons working with strategies, pre-development, concept development and materials cost reduction. We deliver new technical solutions to future programs, mainly based on materials, efficient structures and joining solutions for car bodies and closure applications at the department

As Joining Specialist you will be responsible for initiating and conducting both long-term pre-development activities within the area and short term support in running car programs or special assignments. The work also involves being responsible for strategies, guiding- and mandatory documents. You will work in a broad network within the department and together with Manufacturing Engineering. To be able to be in the technical forefront you will also have connections outside Volvo Car Group, such as suppliers, competitors, technical universities and research institutes regarding information exchange and collaboration projects. Conducting training seminars and information dissemination is an important part of your work, and your continuous competence development and team-building abilities are highly appreciated.

Your initial challenge will be focused on building strong competence in the technical field of joining technologies for product applications and your abilities for team leading. In parallel, as an enabler, you will also build your network within and outside Volvo Car Group. The next possible step in your development is a formal technical specialist role.

Main responsibilities

• Lead the joining development area for the department, towards future goals
• Initiate & conduct long & short term joining development activities
• Formulate strategies, guiding- and mandatory engineering documents
• Train personnel and secure that strategies and development work results in applications

Required qualifications

• M.Sc, preferably in Mechanical engineering
• Knowledge within the field of joining technology for sheet metals
• Documented team leading abilities
• Fluent in written and spoken English
• Experience from pre-development is meritorious
• Experience from analyzing tools like DoE, FMEA etc. is meritorious
• Experience from sheet metal engineering and processing is meritorious
• German language knowledge is an asset
