The Medical Affairs Innovation MAL (MAIMAL) will be responsible for actively driving innovation into all priority brands and emerging portfolio within the TA, ensuring AstraZeneca's scientific leadership is recognised externally. She/he will be accountable for five key areas in GMA, both through internal and external collaborations:
Define, test and implement potential new treatment strategies for existing and pipeline medicines (e.g. concepts for disease modification, diverse approach to data collection and analysis) Collaborate with cross functional stakeholders on the introduction of new early integrated data generation program (e.g. RCT, RWE, NMA, mechanistics), biomarkers, technologies and data analysis methods that would improve clinical practice Identify, develop, qualify and implement new clinical end-points that will differentiate our medicines and improve clinical practice (e.g. COMPEX, disease activity). Engagement and communication with external stakeholders will be key. Work with iMED and MedImmune to develop robust TPPs for target diseases AZ Leadership of select External colaborations (eg early COPD Cohort)
The MAIMAL is a global role located in one of the Head Offices (e.g. Cambridge/UK, Gothenburg/Sweden), reporting to the TA Head of MAI. o PhD within relevant scientific field (respiratory experience preferred)
o Strong demonstration of scientific expert presentations at therapeutic area scientific meetings
o Experience in clinical development in early and/or late stage phases for relevant therapeutic area compounds incl. study design and execution
o Strong connections to the delivery of healthcare in the assigned TA including established relationships with relevant therapeutic area experts required
o Experience in medical affairs, product development, academic research institutes, life cycle management desired
o Experience leading and managing in a global, matrix environment desired
o Experience leading project teams with a track record of delivering results in a complex environment
o Demonstrated track record in delivering and implementing new initiatives, capabilities and leading large scale impactful medical initiatives desired
Skills and Capabilities
o Persuasive oral and written communication skills, including the ability to develop and deliver executive presentations
o Ability to flex between active listening and challenging the status quo
o Proven ability to collaborate with internal and external colleagues in various geographies, cultures, roles, and hierarchic levels - enterprise leadership mindset
o Strong executive presence and ability to work collaboratively with global executive teams and leadership
o Understanding of the complex and evolving Medical Affairs space with insights about trends, opportunities, risks, and an understanding of external stakeholders (payers, patients, physicians)
o Ability to manage overall business and medical priorities while also being able to actively engage in more detailed execution discussions
