Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) advances the science of pharmacovigilance and inspires patient safety initiatives all over the world. As a non-profit foundation, we engage stakeholders who share our vision and collaborate to build a global patient safety culture. As a leader in the research and development of new scientific methods, we explore the benefits and risks of medicines to help minimise harm to patients, and offer products and services used by health authorities and life-science companies worldwide. To enable UMC's continued growth we need effective IT infrastructure that supports our external as well as internal solutions.

We are creating a new senior position of IT Infrastructure Lead, to drive the continued journey towards a modern, effective and fit for purpose IT Infrastructure.

Your role
For this position we are looking for someone who likes to combine hands-on, day-to-day infrastructure development and management tasks with responsibility for leading and building our future infrastructure.

As our IT infrastructure lead, you will guide UMC's work on developing and providing a modern, effective, and fit for purpose IT infrastructure as well as managing the infrastructure transformation related tasks. You will do this by working closely with our agile DevOps teams in Solution Engineering as well as with the Digital Workplace team to understand and document infrastructure requirements and translate them into the right design and services.

Your role will also be to manage and oversee our IT infrastructure governance and service management processes as well as our external infrastructure service providers, to ensure the availability and continuity of timely and high-quality services and support.

You should have in-depth understanding and hands-on experience from modern infrastructure concepts, architectures and set-ups (On-prem/Cloud - primarily Azure). You should be able to manage good relationships with others and have an aptitude for collaboration with multiple teams (currently six teams).

Your general responsibilities are to:

- Define and manage our IT Infrastructure Governance Framework, including cloud governance
- Implement policies related to IT infrastructure, including IT security policies, cloud governance policies and disaster recovery, into standards and operating procedures
-
Support hands-on infrastructure development and management tasks, working closely with the agile teams to manage day-to-day operations

-
As product owner for the hardware, operating systems, networks and tools used for infrastructure management, you will understand infrastructure requirements and manage a prioritized backlog

-
Translate requirements to fit for purpose, cost-effective and well-designed infrastructure services in close collaboration with our architects

-
Manage and coordinate vendors and contractors concerning infrastructure-related products and services

- Prioritise IT infrastructure incidents, problems, and managing the IT infrastructure backlog
-
Oversee IT Infrastructure performance management

-
Together with enterprise and system architects, define and manage infrastructure architecture and design, building in redundancy and room for growth, and emergency planning

-
Provide direction and support to ensure compliance with relevant internal and external policies and standards

-
Manage IT Infrastructure assets including software and hardware inventory maintenance and associated documentation

- Manage our IT security assessment process

You will report to our Chief Technology Officer / Head of Service and Solutions.
What you will need to succeed

To be successful as IT Infrastructure Lead, you should be a senior infrastructure developer or expert passionate about providing great IT infrastructure, now looking for a role combining hands-on infrastructure work with development, governance, and architecture.

You have a strong customer and delivery mindset and work effectively in a broad virtual role with lots of points where you can engage the DevOps team and our service providers to build and manage great infrastructure.

You challenge the status quo and current ways of operating. You are always eager to ask why and understand the root cause of a problem and deliver what is needed not what is "wanted"

You are a structured person with experience from setting up governance, IT security and service management frameworks and procedures.

You have a relevant Bachelor or Master's degree and are fluent in written and spoken English.

We will offer you a creative, challenging, fun, and collaborative environment where your ideas will be valued. We take great pride in our work as well as our processes, and we constantly learn and improve. We build tools so that others can create and sustain patient safety, with state-of-the-art ways of working.
