Background
Cybersecurity has never been this urgent, but large-scale organizations have governance problems. Today's cybersecurity governance mechanisms are hard to use in multisourced IT environments.
Solutions are either so intrusive that they interfere with systems management and thus cannot be used, since systems maintenance is the responsibility of the sourcing provider. Lightweight solutions typically have no ability to be used in large-scale environments. In multi-sourced environments, no generic picture can be established since security reporting are closely tied to the sourcing providers and not comparable between providers.
So, there exists a need to create a lightweight solution that a large-scale organization can order their sourcing providers to run without jeopardizing their ability to deliver according to contract.
Description and Objective
The project/thesis aims to create two prototypes of lightweight "self-check" solutions to evaluate technical security on a host level - and to send reports of these checks on a predefined yet configurable format to a collector mechanism that parses reports to create reports and other analytics. The collector mechanism exists today, though, and is not part of the assignment.
The prototypes need to perform self-check tests on Linux and windows platforms, including both generics ("how many users are in this system", "what is the uptime of this system", "what is the disk usage", "does the system provide a telnet login"), and OS specifics ("is NETBIOS authentication turned off", "is the permissions of the /etc/shadow file set to -rw-r-----").
Prototype needs to utilize minimal capabilities on the host system. Maybe PowerShell in Windows prototype, maybe shellscripts in Linux environments. Idea is that the organization shall simply order their sourcing providers to run the scripts (or however the solution may look) regularly as a "no big deal" request.

• Knowledge in technical platform security, both Linux and Windows.
• Knowledge of REST APIs
• Self-driven and ability to learn and adapt
• Have "Hacker" mindset!
