JOB DESCRIPTION
Advancing global governance in the world requires deep knowledge of its inner workings. As the new International Relations Analyst you will map actors - organizations, academia and corporations, individuals and groups, national and transnational, private and public, any entity - that exert significant influence on global governance of the Foundations focus area of Global Catastrophic Risks. Particular emphasis is placed on climate change, conflict, extreme poverty, and political violence.
Building an extensive database will be a core activity. The starting point will be the Foundation?s existing network from previous projects, consisting of e.g. directors, CEOs, mayors, MPs, activists, and similar, and some of the world?s most prestigious universities. You continue mapping knowledge and expertise among individuals and organizations in relation to their influence, whether symbolic, institutional, financial, legitimate, or otherwise. The reason for conducting this comprehensive work is that whatever ideas the Prize competition brings forward, be it from academic research projects, government initiatives, civil society, business, or individuals, they need to be coupled with a clear picture of the various ways influence works, for the ideas to be effective. If you ever wanted to dig into the actualities of power structures, this is a position dedicated solely to that.
Your background is in international relations, the higher level the better, or in investigative capacities such as international journalism or research similar to what we require. You are highly educated in a broad range of topics and disciplines, and know how to navigate academia, civil society, and other spheres. You have outstanding English skills and any additional languages are a plus, as is anything else that might open additional doors throughout the world. We are undertaking a truly ambitious project with the Prize competition, rare in that it aims for the most extensive scope possible, while maintaining scientific rigor, and being fully funded by a generous donor. But even considering the size, it?s a concrete project with attainable goals.
