What you will be a part of
Industrial Product and Services, a business area of Saab, act like a holding company for the units included a collection of independent business units with their own tailor-made strategies to achieve profitable growth. IPS includes the business units; Aerostructures, Avionics Systems, Combitech and Ventures.
Avionics Systems develops and manufactures qualified electronics, mechanics and software for demanding applications in aircraft and helicopters. Many of these products are developed in collaboration with other parts of Saab or external partners. Most of our projects are carried out in an international environment and we supply products for two of the world’s largest aircraft manufacturers, Airbus and Boeing.
Avionics Systems has a clear strategy to grow in the Avionics domain and to grow in the value chain. The Integrated Avionics Solutions (IAS) engineering team will have a focus role of implementing this strategy. IAS is a recently launched product area, initially staffed with appr 10 people. We will now grow further to implement our strategy.
Your role
The IAS engineering team cover a broad range of activities within three domain areas; Preliminary Engineering, Systems Engineering and Solutions Engineering. We need to strengthen with a number of people and there are opportunities within all three of these areas.
The Preliminary Engineering group is primarily responsible for research activities:
Research regulatory & industry standards
Develop innovative ideas and concepts
Prototype & validate new functions and capabilities
Develop high-lever function & performance specifications
The Systems Engineering group is primarily responsible for development activities:
Develop system-level requirements specifications for new functions and systems
Derive and allocate system-level requirements to other product development areas
Define safety & development assurance aspects of the system
Develop baseline functions including system level integration & verification
The Solutions Engineering group is primarily responsible customer projects and marketing support activities:
Provide a technical interface to customers
Map and adapt customer requirements to system solutions: interpret, clarify, and flow compiled requirements to the product areas.
Develop technical documentation to support bid & proposal activities
Support the customer during system development & certification
To perform the task you will collaborate with the departments Marketing & Sales, Business Development & Strategy and the Product Areas - including Avionics South Africa. You will also cooperate with other Saab business areas.
We are looking for a person with good technical skills and the ability to understand and transform customer requirements to internal requirements and constraints. You are business minded, structured, and analytic and have good communication skills.
Your skills and experience
We are looking for a profile in the commercial/civil aerospace domain knowledge comprising:
General Systems Engineering
General knowledge of the systems in an aircraft
Aircraft Integration knowledge
Certification requirements and operational regulatory environment
Operational environment for commercial air traffic with a focus on low-visibility operations
General requirements
Appropriate professional or postgraduate qualification in a business oriented or a technical discipline.
Strong business understanding and customer focus.
Understanding and ability to work in an international environment and matrix organisation.
