Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching in immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer.

MTC has about 430 active employees, including 81 PhD students, 77 postdoctoral researchers and 32 professors. Key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, translational, national and international collaborations.

Division

The Center for Translational Microbiome Research (CTMR) started in January 2016 as a collaboration between Karolinska Institutet, Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) and Ferring Pharmaceuticals. The center builds on a deep understanding of translational microbiome research, and has established a broad technical, biological, clinical, and epidemiological platform for studying complex microbiological communities in well-defined human materials. A part of the infrastructure at Karolinska Institutet is located within the Clinical Genomics facility at SciLifeLab with access to high-throughput next-generation sequencing capacity. The collaboration forms a solid foundation for understanding the contribution of the microbiome to normal physiology and pathophysiology and opens opportunities for development of novel therapies to address gastroenterology, reproductive health and neonatology.

Duties

We are looking for a research engineer to join the team as information and data manager at The Center for Translational Microbiome Research (CTMR). The position involves work at both Clinical Genomics and CTMR, and requires working with clinicians, geneticists, software developers, and bioinformaticians. We offer an environment that combines highly internationally competitive work in both clinical diagnostics as well as frontline research in the human health field.

The information and data manager position concerns the following main tasks:

- Develop and manage accessible and secure web interfaces for sample registration
- Develop and manage LIMS integration for clinical samples
- Continuous management of research data in a secure, reliable, and dependent way according to relevant laws and regulations concerning research data

Entry requirements

Candidates should hold a BSc in engineering or equivalent, and have excellent technical and practical skills working with information and data systems. You are a careful and detail oriented person, not afraid of responsibility or interacting with external collaborators that are experts in a wide variety of fields connected to our research. You have a strong desire to deliver high quality work, and have experience working independently.

In addition, applicants must have:

- Linux/Unix experience
- Experience with MongoDB or other document database systems
- Documented Python web programming experience
- Fluency in English and Swedish
- Excellent oral and written communication skills

Furthermore, it is beneficial if the applicant has:

- LIMS experience (Genologics Clarity LIMS, or LIMS Light)
- Python/Flask development experience
- Linux systems administration
- General bioinformatics experience
- Experience working in collaborative environments
- Experience of genomics and high-throughput sequencing data
- Experience working with High-Performance Computing systems

We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
