Industrial PhD student position in Permanent Magnet Machine design for vehicle applications
The Electric Propulsion department at Volvo Car Corporation seeks a candidate for an industrial PhD position in cooperation with Chalmers university of Technology,
Job description
The main aim of the project is to develop the next generation of permanent magnet traction machines, develop technical know-how with the purpose of supporting design, testing and manufacturing, exploring novel techniques, materials, geometries, etc. This is to be achieved by state-of-the art review and investigations, followed by theoretical modelling both an analytical level as well as performing numerical FEM simulations. Various material choices and geometry investigation follows, but also development of theory as well as including manufacturing aspects. Towards the second half of the project a prototype is to be built and the theoretical findings are to be verified towards measurements.
Qualifications
To be qualified the applicant must have a Master's degree or equivalent in Electric Power Engineering or Engineering Physics. The successful applicant should have experience in electromagnetic design, preferably the design of electrical machines. Experience of Ansys Maxwell is an advantage. Experimental experience in this area is of a great advantage. Moreover an advantage is if the candidate have a publication record.
We are looking for a strongly motivated person, who is able to work independently as well as to communicate well with the surrounding environment. Good command of English orally and in writing is required to publish and present results at international conferences and in international journals.
Fluent in English. Knowledge of Swedish is an advantage, if the student is not familiar with Swedish, the student is expected to pick up the language within two years. The position also include departmental work up to 10 %, apart from the research task, for instance teaching.

5.Letters of recommendation or contact information for two reference persons
Requirements:
Master in Electric Power Engineering or Engineering Physics.
