Why is Ericsson a good place to work?
As the tech firm that created the mobile world, and with more than 54,000 patents to our name, we've made it our business to make a mark. When joining our team at Ericsson you are empowered to learn, lead and perform at your best, shaping the future of technology. This is a place where you're welcomed as your own perfectly unique self, and celebrated for the skills, talent, and perspective you bring to the team. Are you in? Come, and be where it begins.

Our Exciting Opportunity
At Ericsson Research we invent the future. Our research teams develop and master state-of-the-art concepts that shape today's and tomorrow's mobile radio communication systems.

We are now looking for an industrial Ph.D. student within connectivity and positioning for aerial robots (UAVs), to learn state-of-the-art, advance research, and build technology competence, to ensure technology leadership, and to spread knowledge publicly and for profitable Ericsson business. This position is one out of 15 Early-Stage Researcher (ESR) positions offered within the Marie Skodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network AERO-TRAIN.

The student will be enrolled with the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (RAI) group (www.ltu.se/robotics) at Luleå University of Technology (LTU). The RAI team is conducting fundamental research in all the aspects of robotics with a specific focus on aerial, space and bio-inspired robotics. Team vision includes closing the gap from theory to real life, with strong expertise in field robotics. Specific application areas of focus are robotics for mines, aerial inspection of aging infrastructure, multi-robotic search and rescue, multisensorial fusion and multi robot coordination, including multi robot perception, decentralization and mission execution. The RAI group has a strong European participation in multiple R&D&I projects, while RAI is also participating in the DARPA SUB-T challenge with the CoSTAR Team led by NASA/JPL and has an R&D research agenda with HONDA Research Institute in Japan.
At Ericsson Radio Research we perform research on advanced radio access networks systems, physical layer as well as multi-antenna concepts and algorithms. Our research is targeting standardization, invention of proprietary solutions and pushing the frontiers in future wireless communication theory. You will have the opportunity get an insight into our 5G and 6G research on physical layer and system aspects for communication concepts targeting mobile broadband, cellular IoT, Industry 4.0 MTC and new connectivity scenarios. Are you passionate about technology and love inventing new things? Take the challenge and join our team.

The AERO-TRAIN project is carried out by a consortium of 14 academic and industrial organizations from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Spain, Italy and Switzerland. AERO-TRAIN aims to close the gap between the Infrastructure Operations & Maintenance industry and aerial robotics, with the ambition to keep our invaluable assets operational and safe.

You will
• Perform research at LTU jointly supervised by Ericsson, resulting in academic publications leading up to a Ph.D. dissertation
• Contribute in Ericsson internal research studies
• Create new technical concepts and solutions
• Build competence through interactions within LTU and Ericsson and in the AERO-TRAIN partner network
• Disseminate results as guidelines, conference publications, journal articles, workshop presentations, etc.
