The Active Safety department has been one of the fastest growing parts of Volvo Car Group over the last decade due to rapid development of Active Safety systems and functionality. By continuously launching innovative and world first Active Safety features, Volvo Cars has positioned itself among the leaders in the automotive industry. Now, the work towards achieving our vision that by 2020 no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo continues with autonomous driving as the next step forward.
We are now looking for an Industrial PhD Student that will investigate possibilities of new ways of performing highly accurate radio based positioning.
You will be a member of our Sensor Fusion team, working with map data needs for a fused environmental perception, as well as a solution for probe sourcing sensor data for keeping a cloud based map continuously up to date and reliable enough to be used for autonomous driving. You will also be tightly connected to the Wireless Technologies team at Volvo Cars.
Your academic domicile will be the Communications Engineering research group at Lund University, where they are performing research on new ways of highly accurate positioning based on already existing radio signals from cellular networks.
The goal of your work will be to develop new positioning methodologies that meet the requirements for autonomous and cooperative driving.
Required Qualifications
-M.Sc degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Mathematics Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
-Fluent English proficiency (written and spoken)
Meritorious
-Driver's Licence B
-Experience from RF based measurements,
-Knowledge in statistical signal processing, machine learning methods, wireless communication, and radio wave propagation.
Personal characteristics
Communicative and brave, analytical with an application oriented mind set. Persistent and curios with a problem-solving oriented approach. Being able to collect small pieces of information, understand how the pieces correlate to each other and put them together to create a complete picture.
Recruitment Information
Location for this position is within Gothenburg, but travelling between Gothenburg and Lund will occur on a regular basis. We apply a continuous selection process so we recommend that you submit your application in English latest May 20.
