Industrial Ph.D. Candidate - Uncertainty in Structural Dynamics Predictions and its Influence on Decision Making
As Industrial Ph.D. Candidate in the project "Uncertainty in Structural Dynamics Predictions and its Influence on Decision Making" within the department of NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) Center and section CAE Body and vehicle NVH, you will be a part of our post-graduate program.
The main objective with the project is to develop simulation methods and numerical tools to understand and predict the uncertainty and variability in the dynamic response in vehicle structures. The first mission with the project is to be able to use numerical models to predict the variability of the dynamic response in a vehicle structure in an early project phase. This will include experiments to understand the variability in existing structure and to develop and improve current structural dynamic numerical models so that they could replicate the experiments. The second goal with the project is to develop/improve numerical methods for optimization and robustness analysis of dynamic response in vehicle structures.
The first five years of employment will be dedicated to the research in co-operation with Chalmers University of Technology. After dissertation, the plan is that the Ph.D. will take on a strategically important role related to the area of expertise within Research & Development at Volvo Car Group in Gothenburg. The research students spend 80% of their time with their research and 20% with issues determined by Volvo Car Group.
To successfully accomplish the project, you should have very strong analytical skills, act independently and take initiatives. You should also be a good listener and have strong communication skills. Required qualifications are at least a M.Sc. in Engineering, with emphasis in computational mechanics. You must have an excellent English language level, verbally and in writing. Competencies in structural dynamics and/or acoustics will be an advantage.
