The Digital Machining R&D department (CBDR) is a new department, created in line with Industry 4.0 to handle development of concepts, products and software through new applications and algorithms; connecting us and our customers closer to machine. Right now, we are looking for an Industrial Mathematician to join our team, enabling early concept development of models and algorithms for novel tool path generation and machining process optimization. This is a great opportunity to join us on the initial stages and make a substantial impact in our ways of working with connectivity innovation.

This position is preferably located in Sandviken, while Stockholm is also an option.

Key performance areas
As Industrial Mathematician for Machining Processes, you handle concept development and software prototyping in areas related to; virtual machining systems, CAM, Cyber-Manufacturing Systems, digital twins, AI, machine learning, modeling and simulation. You take part in discussions with domain experts and transform machining application knowledge into mathematical models, algorithms and novel solutions, ensuring we are always ahead in the game of setting the industry standards.

You are responsible for the early concept development including modeling, programming, verification and documentation of algorithms, models and methods regarding tool paths generation, machining process prediction, simulation and optimization, including kinematic and dynamic modeling. Furthermore, you establish the basis for requirement specifications as input to demand managers for further industrialization.

We are looking for someone with M.Sc. or the equivalent within the field of Applied Mathematics, Industrial Mathematics or Mechanical Engineering, oriented at geometric, analytic and mechanistic modeling, optimization and data analytics. You have solid experience of modeling, algorithm development and programming within the field of machining processes, and have experience with requirement definition, development, test and verification. Knowledge of metal cutting processes and systems, preferably together with experience as a technical project lead, is also an advantage in this position. We work in a truly international organization and you have excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, while knowledge of Swedish is a plus.
