Hydro Planning is a key player in the management of Vattenfall?s Nordic Hydro Power asset portfolio. We are responsible for maximising asset value by optimal planning and dispatching with respect to market prices, reservoir levels, availability and other constraints. With our experience and detailed knowledge we turn model outputs to executable production plans that are continuously updated in order to adapt to ever changing market and operational conditions.
We are now offering two positions in this exciting team:
Hydro Planner - operative
You will be working with the day ahead planning process, determining the production strategy for the coming week. Along with the operative tasks in the dispatch centre, you will also engage in maintaining and further developing optimization and support tools used for steering and operative planning.
The successful candidate will have some knowledge in power production, the physical power markets and a genuine interest in the large scale physics of water management. As planning is largely based on number crunching, and the production plans are expressed in mathematical terms, a keen interest in numbers is important. Basic programming skills in languages such as Matlab, VBA, and SQL are a clear advantage, as is experience in mathematic optimization and/or hydro generation management.
The day ahead position in the Dispatch Centre is staffed daytime seven days a week. You must therefore be willing to work weekends on a regular basis.
Hydro Planner ? outage management
Every year planned and unplanned outages result in multimillion production losses. To continuously re-schedule outages due to changing market and hydrological conditions therefore is very important. Your primary responsibility will be seasonal- and short term hydro outage management with the objective to minimize outage related losses. In addition, you will work on process improvement. To achieve this, close cooperation with the production and maintenance business units is crucial.
To succeed, you need good knowledge of the Swedish hydropower system and the terms under which it operates. We therefore believe that you have at least a few years? experience from the Swedish hydro power industry. Good communications skills are required, both oral and written. If you are familiar with optimization and industry-relevant forecasting tools it is meritorious as is experience from hydro generation management.
General qualifications for both positions
Required education is a university degree in engineering, mathematics, hydrology or similar. As a person you are a service-minded, self-motivated team player. You have good analytic skills and the ability to see possibilities rather than difficulties in a complex environment.
