The Accelerator Division at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a "High Power RF System Engineer".
Description of position/department
The Accelerator Division is responsible for the design, construction, commissioning and operation of the ESS accelerator. The pulsed superconducting linac, to be built in Lund, will produce a 5MW average power proton beam, driving the world's most powerful neutron source. The RF department is responsible for design the RF system for the  ESS accelerator. The RF system will provide over 120MW of peak RF power supplied by over 200 klystrons.
Description of main responsibilities
The main responsibility will be to manage the high power RF systems of the Linac which includes the klystrons and klystron modulators and RF power distribution plant.
The candidate will work with RF technology at ESS and the ESS partner labs and drive technical oversight of RF component procurement, commissioning and evaluation, with commercial and academic partners
Successful candidates will participate in pre-construction Research, Design and Development in the field of RF technology. Depending on the specific project, significant travel and/or longer periods at collaborating institutions may be required.
The successful candidate will report to the RF manager of the Accelerator division.
Qualifications
• Candidates are expected to have a PhD in physics or engineering and several years of experience of practical work with RF technology.
• Candiates should have expereince with high power RF and high voltage systems.
• It is an advantage if the candidate has experience of work in an industrial environment and have good links with both industrial and academic partners with the objective to inform the ESS technical design of novel and disruptive RF technologies and research relevant to ESS accelerator base line and possible future upgrades.
• Experience of working in an international environment is essential. 
• Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage. Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.

The European Spallation Source ESS AB will design, build and operate a multi-disciplinary, large-scale research infrastructure based on the world's most powerful neutron source. ESS will provide scientists with unique and powerful neutron scattering instruments for the study of a large range of materials - from polymers and pharmaceuticals to membranes and molecules. The ESS project is partnered by 17 European countries, and hosted by Sweden and Denmark. The ESS will be built in Lund, Sweden, by a collaboration of European scientists and engineers. ESS is planned to produce the first neutrons by 2019. When the facility is in full operation 2025, ESS has around 450 employees.
