The leadership team of Vehicle Engineering is looking for a new team member who can take on the role as Head of our Materials Engineering Centre. At Vehicle Engineering we establish lead for our core values Sustainability and Safety. We strengthen speed and flow for integration, verification, and validation via physical and virtual test objects.We achieve this by continuously developing our competence, using data for analysis, and implementing the latest tools and methods. By that, we contribute with our knowledge in technical solutions within Engineering and complete vehicle integration.
Within Volvo Cars Materials Engineering Centre we are about 80 highly skilled professionals who develop and deliver on our Mastering materials mission. The mission consists of creating the materials strategy, governing the materials selection, and improving the test methods and materials data library. As an attribute center we support the company strategic direction of Freedom to move in a Personal, Sustainable and Safe way. We build our leadership through research and understanding of the customer usage of our cars and their needs. This to help make our cars sustainable, durable, and safe by selecting the appropriate materials. Our knowledge is used by Engineering for innovative solutions and their integration in our cars.
The purpose of the Materials Engineering Centre is to ensure a company transparent, standardized offer of key materials. Securing requirements for product and process to enable a global comprehensive solution for lightweight, sustainability/circularity and cost.
Our material testing is being performed both physically inhouse, by external test laboratories or by virtual tools. We are continuously developing methods to be able to foresee and quickly adapt to new regulations, geopolitical changes, and new innovations.
You will develop and support creative and highly skilled people, enabling high quality attribute fulfillment that is affordable and aligned with Volvo Cars sustainability vision. You will together with your team support the company set strategy and tactics for materials to deliver on the company purpose "We aim to be pioneers in protecting people and the planet by working towards climate neutrality, embracing the circular economy and improving people's lives." You will develop our materials leadership by building knowledge and using internal and external networks to define the materials strategy of the future that also handles global challenges ahead.

Skills to make you fit the role
• Experience in developing Managers and lead through others
• Experience in car development and used to take wise and sometimes innovative decisions founded in facts.
• MSc degree or higher in engineering with knowledge/experience in scientific research
• Advanced communication skills and capability to act as a sustainability spokesperson and advocate with high integrity founded in facts.
• A genuine interest and long experience, more than 10 years, in materials engineering.
