Objective and Purpose: The Head of System Architecture is a highly strategic and senior leadership role within R&D. This role holds the overall responsibility for Ascom's architecture, ensuring alignment between various teams within R&D along with the architecture and technology strategy. The Head of System Architecture leads a team of subject matter experts responsible for delivering a best-in-class technology architecture. Ascom has already embarked on a cloud journey, but there is a good opportunity to enhance and optimize our cloud development initiatives. Also our diverse software portfolio needs harmonization and consolidation to make it the cutting edge ecosystem needed to fulfill current and future customer requirements.
Your Contributions:
Define Ascom's technical architecture and provide leadership and strategic direction for the unit and team members.
Ensure the use of high-quality and competitive technologies within the technical architecture.
Develop and align Ascom's Technology Strategy within R&D, closely connecting with the overall strategic planning process.
Oversee all roles in the area of responsibility, ensuring team members effectively execute their responsibilities and tasks.
Clearly define and communicate expectations and targets, monitoring and tracking performance.
Establish best-in-class practices and processes, acting as a role model and expert.
Develop, implement, and update operational processes, procedures, and work instructions.
Manage and guide the unit, motivating employees and achieving steady improvements.
Support team members' development and manage their performance.
Foster high levels of collaboration between different teams and drive a culture of ongoing exchange and collaboration.
Act as an ambassador for Ascom's architecture, ensuring proper sharing of information and knowledge within the company.
Provide in-depth technical expertise to support regions, particularly for pre-sales work and tender responses.
Actively participate in the Ascom R&D management team, driving the overall transformation of the business.

The Ideal Candidate:
Master's degree in engineering, software development, computer science, or a related field; alternatively, equivalent professional experience.
At least 10 years of experience in systems architecture within healthcare, retail, hospitality, and industry environments, including the development and implementation of software products and systems.
At least 10 years of leadership experience in a global, multi-cultural environment.
Proficiency in designing and implementing scalable, secure, and high-performance systems
Proven track record of agile software development and new ways of working.
Demonstrated success in building and maintaining relationships across teams and geographies in an international environment.

Skills and Competencies:
Clear understanding of modern software development and deployment technologies, design principles such as domain driven design, cloud architecture and devops toolchains
Strong understanding of software design and excellent technical understanding of industry-relevant products and solutions (e.g., healthcare IT, mobile communications, software).
Excellent knowledge of software platforms and embedded system design.
Strong customer focus and stakeholder management skills.
Excellent leadership skills with the ability to build and manage high-performing teams and coach individuals.
Excellent communication skills, capable of addressing all levels within organizations with impact.
Excellent interpersonal and relationship skills, particularly in persuasion, influencing, motivation, and leading others.
High analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong business acumen.
