About RFSL and the international unit
RFSL (the Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Rights), founded in 1950, is one of the world's oldest non-profitorganizations working on advancing LGBTQI rights. RFSL's mission is to ensure LGBTQI individuals' human rights are respected both nationally and internationally. globally. Our international work focuses on supporting partner organizations in Eastern Europe, Asia, and Africa through regranting and partnerships,capacity-strengtheningand facilitating access to international advocacy platforms.
Your role with us
As Head of Program (HoP), you will oversee, lead, and coordinate the strategic operational activities of the Eastern Europe and South Caucasus team while maintaining a collaborative and supportive team environment. The role includes supporting team members in their program implementation, overseeing the program, budget and individual work plans of team members, donor and stakeholder relations, and ensuring the well-being of the program team. While you will hold operational leadership responsibilities for the program team, the employer and work environment responsibilities will lie with the International Director, to whom you will report. This is a permanent position with a six-month probation period.
Key Responsibilities Lead the strategic and operational work of the Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus team;
Oversee team and work planning, task delegation, and individual follow-up meetings to support team members as well as team to deliver according to plans;
Ensure timely program delivery that aligns with objectives, budgets, and donor agreements;
Serve as the primary contact for donors, including managing applications, reports, and disbursement requests;
Foster a positive team environment through collaboration and coordination.
Coordinate and monitor program activities, including evaluation and budget oversight;
Initiate and coordinate new grant applications;
Coordinate with senior management and the International Director on behalf of the team and programs;
Coordinate with other teams in the International Unit and within RFSL to highlight the work done and to learn and coordinate for an even better impact.
Who are you?
We are looking for a solution-oriented, collaborative, and structured professional with strong leadership and program management skills. You have extensive experience in international development and a passion for advancing the rights of LGBTQI people.
To succeed in this role, you need: A proven track record in program, leadership, and grant management;
At least 5 years of relevant experience in international development or civil society organizations, preferably including experience of working in repressive contexts and/or conflict;
Strong financial management and donor relations experience;
Proficiency in English (spoken and written);
Degree in international relations, political science, or related fields, or equivalent experience;
Experience in team leadership, including task planning and follow-up.
Desirable qualifications: Experience working with LGBTQI movements and small, grassroots organizations in Eastern Europe and South Caucasus;
Experience of working with capacity-strengthening activities and advocacy;
Familiarity with Swedish development cooperation frameworks.
Proficiency in relevant regional languages and Swedish is a plus
Employment terms Employment type: Full-time, permanent position.
Location: RFSL office in Stockholm, with flexibility for remote work within Sweden.
Start date: As agreed.
Contract terms: Covered by the Collective Agreement for Nonprofit Organizations.
