Are you passionate about strategic IT work and hands-on operations to develop the IT infrastructure and processes of a rapidly growing human rights organisation? Do you want to work in an international environment with colleagues all over the world? Then you might be the one we are looking for.

About the role
We are now looking for a Head of IT to join our Security and Innovation Department. The department consists of a team of colleagues focusing on providing security focused and innovative supports to human rights defenders.

The overall responsibility of the role is to lead and develop the IT unit to ensure Civil Rights Defenders IT systems and processes are efficient and secure. You will lead and manage a small but growing team of colleagues, working cross-organisationally with all parts of Civil Rights Defenders both in the Stockholm-based head quarters and in regional offices.

The position is an operational position which mixes strategic IT work with hands-on support, all aimed to develop the IT infrastructure and processes of a rapidly growing civil society organisation.

You will be responsible for procurement and agreements regarding systems, support, maintenance, and licenses of IT systems and services; further developing and implementing a clear IT governance model; owning and keeping the IT roadmap up to date; and prioritize projects according to Civil Rights Defenders strategic objectives. You will be responsible of overseeing the internal IT systems, development environments, cloud infrastructure, and related processes and routines.

As Head of IT you are part of the Leadership Forum and report to the Security and Innovation Department Director.

The role offers great variety, including work tasks such as:

• Ownership and development of the Microsoft 365 platform. Civil Rights Defenders works in accordance with a clearly defined cloud strategy

• To lead and develop the organisation's Microsoft Modern Workplace platform based on Autopilot, Intune and Azure AD

• To fully understand the organisation's cyber security defences and to monitor cyber security reports, both internal and those provided by third party suppliers.

• To assess IT related risks across the organisation, capture these on the risk register along with mitigating actions, and escalate risks to the Director of Finance and IT when necessary.

• To manage contracts with third-party suppliers, fully understanding the service provided and ensuring that these achieve value for money and that any supplier performance issues are successfully identified and addressed or mitigated.

• To be the human backup to colleagues in the IT unit, but also work closely with the Director of Security and Innovation together with third-party suppliers to ensure the organisation's IT infrastructure is fit for purpose.

• To stay up to date with cybersecurity threats, and ensuring that processes, systems, and routines meet external and internal requirements.

• Managing colleagues in dedicated IT Unit within the organisation's Security and Innovation Department.

About you

As a person you prefer to set high goals for yourself as well as for the organisation and tend to work hard to achieve them. In the past, you have achieved these goals through collaborating with others in a responsive and smooth way, but also by leading, motivating, and empowering others to effectively reach common goals.

As a person you show interest, willingness, and ability to help others and strive to deliver solutions. You are open-minded and like to take initiative and generate activity. You collaborate with others and make sure to contribute to reaching common goals and you understand that responsibilities as well as rewards should be shared within the team.

It is fundamental for you to resist undue pressure in decision-making and to communicate key points and ideas with clarity. If you also understand how background, culture and group affiliation affects oneself and others and have the ability to take this into account when making decisions, you will be successful in this role.

We assume that you share our values.

To be suitable for this role you have

• A Bachelor's degree in IT, equivalent education or other documented experience within IT

• At least 3 years of relevant operational working experience within IT, in or outside of the NGO sector

• A few years of documented experience of being part of and working in a management team or in a managerial position with broader strategic role

• Experience of managing Microsoft public cloud infrastructure

• Good understanding of compliance requirements such as GDPR and other privacy related legislation

• Good understanding of standards in accordance with the ISO/IEC 27001.

• Experience from and excellence in managing complex projects

• Fluency (orally and written) in English (level C1 required, C2 a merit); additional languages, such as Swedish, Russian or Spanish, are an asset.

It is a merit if you have ISO/IEC 27001 certification, experience from working in or close to the non-profit or civil society sector and/or knowledge or experience of IT management in rapidly changing environments in different geographies.
