As Head of ABB Research Center, you will be responsible for leading the local staff and manage operations of ABB's research center located in Västerås, Sweden. You will support local, regional, and global businesses through the development of new concepts, technologies, technology platforms, and intellectual property for an assigned technology group.

In this role, you will report to the Chief Technology Officer of ABB Motion.

Your responsibilities
Overseeing the creation of the local technology roadmap for the local Research Center (CRC) and supported technologies based on input from ABB businesses. Providing input to the project portfolio for the local CRC.
Setting targets, overseeing execution of global and local research projects, and ensuring achievement of local CRC performance targets. Coordinating project planning and execution with other research centers where appropriate.
Building and maintaining an innovative culture by attracting, motivating, developing, and retaining creative experts and specialists.
Supporting and overseeing transfer of technology and knowledge between the local CRC and internal partners (ABB Divisions and relevant R&D teams).
Networking and collaboration with external partners - especially universities and other research organizations - in the country/region in coordination with ABB's businesses.
Overseeing financial planning and budgeting. Monitoring ongoing progress against financial targets and defining action plans where necessary.
Ensuring appropriate legal contracts for IP and licensing of technology between country and ABB Group. Serving as the key technical resource for the local ABB units regarding the technologies addressed by the local CRC.
Ensuring that the local CRC is properly organized and staffed with top/world-class talents.

Your background
Management and leadership experience. Track record of talent identification and development.
Academic background, preferably PhD.
Strategic technology understanding and planning.
Passion for science, technology and sustainability and readiness in participating in shaping the future.
Strong business acumen spanning across multiple disciplines such as project & portfolio management, financial figures and forecasting, intellectual property, etc.
Customer and business/market orientation combined with the ability to create and maintain strong networks. High level communication skills with talent to communicate effectively and efficiently with different external and internal partners.
Self-driven, resilient, enthusiastic personality. Ability to think outside the box and always delivering pragmatic solutions to daily challenges. Can-do mentality. High quality advocacy and inquiry.
Bringing as well as creating and maintaining networks.
Good verbal and written English skills are required. Knowledge of Swedish language is an advantage.
