The unit for Hydrological Research works in Sweden, Europe and worldwide with developing Water and Climate services based on forecast and scenario tools. We calculate variability in water resources, climate change impacts, and water quality in catchments. The work done here aims to improve decision support for physical planning and environmental control, as well as forecasting for flood warning services and the hydropower industry. We work directly with both external end-users and SMHI's more operational divisions. The unit has some 30 employees from 13 countries.

The unit is successful in its mission and has grown rapidly recently. The unit is divided into three groups based on research, development and scientific lead. We are now looking for a group manager for researchers. The group leaders report directly to the head of the unit, who is responsible for the budget. The group leader is responsible for projects and the working environment (e.g. individual dialogues and personnel issues) and participate in the everyday work at the unit to 50% as project manager, scientist, developer, or working with marketing/communication to further develop our water and climate services in Sweden and internationally. You will contribute to on-going projects and initiate new ones, with international collaboration in Europe and world-wide. Your work may include scientific analysis, programming, user interactions, web design, attracting funding or writing scientific papers.

The position is permanent, starting 1 January 2020, with 100 % working time and location in Norrköping.

Your Profile

We are looking for a goal-oriented colleague, passionate about the work, who is interested in leadership and developing others. You should be a good communicator, in spoken and written English, with the ambition to learn Swedish within a year. Your background should include a Doctoral degree and experience of leadership /coaching. We value skills in giving presentations and lectures, team leading, agile approaches and delivery of results in a timely and qualitative manner. Well-developed professional international networks and good knowledge of social media is a merit. To apply, you must already have a work permit for Sweden (this is the case for EU citizens).
