The unit for Hydrological Research works in a broad scientific field with hydrology, hydrometeorology, water quality, global warming, forecasts, etc. The research is applied by development of Water and Climate services and scenario tools in Sweden, Europe and worldwide. We calculate variability in water resources, climate change impacts, and water quality in catchments and river systems. The work done here aims to improve decision support for spatial planning and environmental control, as well as forecasts for flood warning services and the hydropower industry. We work directly with both external users and SMHI's more operational divisions. The unit has some 30 employees from 13 countries.

The unit is successful in its mission and has recently grown rapidly. Therefore, we are now splitting the responsibility for personnel and are looking for two managers, responsible for some 15 co-workers each. One manager will be responsible for the co-workers mainly engaged in science and the other for the co-workers mainly engaged in development. These managers will report directly to the head of the unit, who has the economic responsibility while the group managers are responsible for result reporting and quality assurance. Besides responsibility for the working environment, individual dialogues and personnel issues, these group leaders will at 50% participate in the everyday work as scientist, developer, project manager, or working with marketing/communication to further develop our water and climate services in Sweden and internationally. You will contribute to the on-going projects and initiate new ones, with international collaboration in Europe and world-wide. Your work may include scientific analysis and writing journal papers, programming, user interactions, web design or attracting funding.

The positions are permanent, starting in January 2018 (or as soon as possible after that), with 100% working time and location in Norrköping.

Your Profile

We are looking for goal-oriented colleagues, passionate about their works, who like to work both independently and with others. You should be a good communicator, in spoken and written English, with the ambition to learn Swedish within a year. Both positions require a Bachelor/Master degree. The manager responsible for scientists should also hold a Doctoral degree. The manager responsible for developers, on the other hand, should have experience with working in development projects, including programming or leading work by developers/programmers. We value skills in giving presentations and lectures, team work, agile approaches and delivery of results in a timely and qualitative manner. Well-developed professional international networks and good knowledge of social media is a merit. You must already have a work permit for Sweden (this is the case for EU citizens).
