Group leader position in Lignocelluose Biology

Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC) is an internationally recognized centre in experimental plant biology and forest biotechnology. It also serves as an innovation platform for forest industries. UPSC hosts 4 National excellence centres and is leading the Swedish conifer genome sequencing. It consists of two departments, the Department of Plant Physiology, Umeå University and the Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology from the Swedish Agricultural University. A total of about 180 persons from 35 countries are working here of which about 30 are group leaders.
Research area
We are looking for a group leader with the ambition to establish internationally competitive research related to feedstock and bioenergy. The position comes with a start-up package including a PhD/post doc positions and running expenses. The position will work within the framework of Bio4Energy (www.bio4energy.se/), a novel Swedish centre for bioenergy with emphasis on forest feedstock. This stimulating network will provide a supportive environment, and exiting connections towards wood processing and biorefinng in academia and industry. You will be based at Umeå Plant Science Centre which offers state of the art technical platforms for performing cutting edge research in plant biology and forest biotechnology. The platforms include; growth facilities, Populus transformation facility, confocal, electron (TEM, SEM) and light microscopy, metabolomics, proteomics, NMR, mass spectrometry and carbohydrate and cell wall analysis.
Your research should focus on basic biology of lignocellulose feedstock, with possible applications for the use of forest feedstock as a source of energy and materials. The overall aim should be to create basic knowledge and put demonstrators in place to apply molecular tools in breeding and/or post harvest processes of forest feedstock. Your background could be in one or several fields such as; molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, chemistry or microscopy. At UPSC there are ca 10 groups doing research on different aspects wood science. This creates a dynamic atmosphere sponsored and coordinated by our national excellence centers. The UPSC environment is very international (working language is English), friendly and supportive with ample possibilities for in house collaborations.
Duties
The candidate is expected to develop an independent research program and should work within the framework of Bio4Energy (www.bio4energy.se/). The position involves limited amount of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Eligibility:
Applicant should have at least a PhD or equivalent in could be in one or several fields such as molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, chemistry or microscopy, and preferable have a documented competence in lignocellulose biology.
