As a Respiratory GMed Group Director, you will have the responsibility for line managing a number of physicians and non-physician scientists, including performance management and professional development activities. The Group Director is accountable to the Clinical Development & Medical Safety Director, Respiratory GMed, who acts as team lead among the line managers, for maximizing efficient utilization of their Group's physicians and non-physician scientists to deliver the agreed GMed objectives. These include delivery of specific Clinical Development studies and regulatory submission documents, and the rapid implementation of agreed leading edge development methods, supporting global teamwork and driving productivity gains for competitive advantage. You key role is to achieve these aims by providing strategic and operational leadership within the GMed.

You will participate in Project activities on an ongoing basis, e.g. in a Senior Medical Lead, Project Physician or Scientist role, as agreed with the Clinical Development & Medical Safety Director.

As a Respiratory GMed Group Director you will be reporting to the Clinical Development & Medical Safety Director, Respiratory GMed.

Accountabilities

* Provide strategic and operational leadership to assigned physicians and scientists.
* Ensure consistent practices, compliance with internal SOPs, local regulations and laws, talent development, leadership development, best practice sharing, mentoring programs, coaching, training, and medical education in collaboration with the Clinical Development & Medical Safety Director, and across GMeds.

Major Responsibilities

* Line management responsibility for physicians and scientists delivering the performance management and guiding the professional development of direct reports. Ensure individuals are rewarded and recognized appropriately for success. Actively manage poor performance and ensure expectations for success are clearly understood and agreed.
* Recruitment and retention of internal and external talent to support capabilities.
* Develop, coach, mentor, retain, motivate and inspire individuals in their group.
* Efficiently utilize resources and capabilities within their group to deliver agreed Respiratory GMed activities.
* Manage the approval of travel, purchase of minor equipment/software, and other routine administration matters for direct reports.
* It is expected that the Respiratory Group Director will have direct engagement in clinical activities as appropriate. These could include but are not limited to: direct project support, licensing evaluations, external relationship activities, disease strategy development, etc...
* Contribute to improvement initiatives and work to establish good global relations and drive the development of systems, skills & processes in conformance to global standards.
* Communicate business priorities and vision.
* Work closely with key stakeholders to effectively champion project objectives and resource requirements.
* Ensure that the group and the GMed attain high SHE standards and meet its legal obligations to Internal and External Contacts/Customers
* Strong worldwide external awareness, good scientific and external decision-maker-networks
* Credible in scientific and commercial environments

Minimum requirements in experience and competence:

* Medical and/or scientific degree at Ph.D. level or equivalent.
* Relevant experience in line management and/or leading a team.
* Working knowledge of performance management, budget management and employment legislation
* A broad clinical and research background and a comprehensive understanding of the medical aspects of drug development, particularly in specialist area for the role.
* Specific understanding of late phase drug development as appropriate to the role. Generally at least 5 years of pharmaceutical company experience is required although in exceptional cases, other relevant experience may be substituted.
