Group Design Leaders - Interior Engineering R&D

Interior Engineering is the department within R&D focused on delivering world-class interior for our future cars. We are responsible for all phases of the development, i.e. annual work, advanced engineering, concept development, industrialization, current model quality and cost reduction. We work to a large extent in a cross-functional product development process together with Purchasing, Design, Manufacturing, Product Planning and of course the other development units within R&D. We are now looking to strengthen the following groups with Group Design Leaders;

• Strategy, concept& maintanance
• Interior Trim
• Seats
• Cockpit & Surface Materials
• Restraints

As Group Design Leader (GDL) you will be the project leader for specific parts in a car program. You are responsible for Technology, Time and Cost and as an important member in the department's management team, reporting to the System Program Leader. Your responsibility is to lead the cross functional team with Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality Management and Suppliers towards a common goal. Based on the Volvo Cars Leadership model, you will be able to develop and lead a highly motivated team to deliver on objectives as well as influence strategic issues cross functionally.

Main responsibilities

• Coordinate and lead the team to reach the technical objectives and secure the deliveries within the given time and budget
• Together with the team, develop technical solutions and documentation that describe the systems and components (or review solutions developed by supplier)
• Initiate and assure that corrective actions are carried out when deviations occurs
• Together with the responsible design engineers, set up, manage and follow up the component development time plans
• Ordering of test objects, soft tools and bought assignments
• The work will require close contact with other areas within R&D and our suppliers
• Communicate the status and forecast for the project to System Program Manager and line organisation

Required qualifications

• B.Sc Mehcanical Engineer, or equivalent experience. M.Sc is meritorious
• Experience of Product Development, preferably in a project management position
• Driver's license B
• Fluent in English, written and spoken
• Experience from the automotive industry is meritorious
• Supplier base knowledge is meritorious

• Able to handle periods of high work load with multiple tasks
• Technical understanding
