The External Relations & EU Projects Group at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden invites applications for a Grant Writer position.

Description of the group

The External Relations & EU Projects Group provides tailored support and assistance to scientists and engineers at ESS in developing, writing and submitting applications to European and also national calls for research funding. The Group is also in charge of administrating all awarded grants at ESS, which includes setting up of projects, financial reporting throughout the implementation phase, closing down of projects, and facilitating audits.

The ESS is one of the largest research infrastructure projects being built in Europe today. The construction of the facility is 60% complete now and First Science is scheduled for 2023. Europe has led the field of neutron science for approximately 40 years thanks to a healthy network of neutron facilities spread out all over the continent. As the most powerful spallation source in the world, ESS will deliver transformative capabilities and extend the neutron technique to new scientific domains. Research and innovation grants are strategic means to maintain the established research communities and propagate the use of neutron techniques to new ones. Tailored project proposals allow ESS to explore funding opportunities associated with technology development at ESS and respond to the missions in the future Horizon Europe programme.

We are seeking a Grant Writer with professional experience in writing and developing proposals to join our team.

Description of main responsibilities

Your main areas of responsibilities as a Grant Writer would be to:

• Identify suitable calls and funding opportunities, including weekly screening of national and international information portals
• Actively collaborate with colleagues from the science and engineering teams, ESS in-kind partners, and the wider European neutron user community to develop feasible project ideas of excellent scientific and research value, identify suitable funding sources and research and innovation opportunities
• Establish strategic partnerships with internal and external partners and stakeholders
• Support ESS scientists and engineers in writing research proposals, including coordination of the project consortia
• Maintain the Group's library of text modules describing the organisation, work-flow, and project management routines
• Review drafts and discuss results with researchers and external partners of all levels in order to identify key messages for scientific audiences
• Support the preparation of administrative documents and advise on budget negotiations
Qualifications

• 4-5 years' work experience from a similar role, with a track record of developing successful research and innovation proposals, and a profound experience in scientific project proposal writing
• Academic degree in subject relevant to the portfolio of the tasks. A background in a natural science discipline will be an asset
• Proven knowledge of EU framework programmes, in particular Horizon 2020
• Excellent writing and communication skills in English (native speaker level)
• Experience in working on multiple projects simultaneously

Duration & Location

The position is a fixed term position, ending 2021-12-31.

Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
