www.slu.se SLU is seeking a quantitative geneticist to work at the Interbull Centre, in the SLU Ultuna campus, Uppsala. The Interbull Centre is a section of the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics of SLU that provides international genetic evaluation of dairy cattle to 30 different countries five times a year on behalf of the International Committee for Animal Recording (ICAR). The service is currently expanding to include international evaluation for genomically enhanced breeding values as well as international evaluations for beef breeds and traits. The Interbull Centre staff includes mainly geneticists who deal with statistical packages and tailored programs that run in Linux servers. www.interbull.org.Duties: The Interbull Centre needs a professional to integrate with the service team that carries out the international genetic evaluations of bovine populations. Responsibilities include data management, computation of genetic analysis and estimation of genetic parameters, service documentation and support for internal and external users. The position involves travelling abroad for participation in technical meetings. The focus of the position is on service provision.
Qualifications: Candidates should have at least a M.Sc. in animal/plant breeding, statistical/computational genetics, or related fields. A background in genetic evaluation and computational skills in Fortran/Python are desirable. Candidates should be service minded and being able to handle high peaks of workload and to take fast and motivated decisions. Also, the candidate shall have demonstrated evidence of strong analytical skills and a willingness to work collaboratively. The working language at the Interbull Centre is English.
