MAX IV is looking for a gas equipment technician to join their team.

Your team
This role is a part of the Technical Infrastructure team in Engineering II and will mainly be focusing on maintenance and installations of gas systems/equipment. You will work in close collaboration with our Gas technician and supervised by our Gas and cryo engineer. You will also act as a backup to the gas technician in case of his absence.

Your main work tasks will be:

- Gas equipment: inventory, maintenance, calibration and usage.
- Building and installing new gas systems/equipment
- Installation, testing and maintenance of pressurized and gas safety related equipment at the facility.
- Contribute to develop and provide training in gas cylinder/equipment handling and other gas related equipment.
- Support VVS technicians in day-to-day work if necessary.

Secondary work tasks in case of absence of Gas technician:

- Daily collaboration with Experimental Safety Team (EST) and other stakeholders i.e., Floor Coordinators, and Beamlines to gain a comprehensive understanding of the gas requirements for user experiments.
- Provide support to EST in key factors such as pressure, volumes, purity of pure and mixed gases, as well as the available engineering safety controls so they will be able to determine the permissible gas limits for the experiments.
- Daily collaboration and information with floor coordinators on gas requirements, experiments, and operations to ensure continuous 24/7 support for user and beamlines.
- Order, prepare, deliver and install gas cylinders and gas equipment according to needs at the beamlines experiments and safety restrictions

To be successful in this role, we believe you need to have the following qualifications:

- Several years (minimum 3-5) of experience as a VVS-technician or similar preferably with experience from gas pipe and equipment installations
- Practical knowledge in handling of gas cylinders and related gas equipment.
- Hands on experience working with gases and pressurized equipment.
- Ability to interpret chemical hazard classifications and Safety Data Sheets (SDSs).
- Physically capable of handling a 50L, 80kg bottle of compressed gas.
- High collaborative and communication skills. You are able to communicate fluently and effectively in English, both in speaking and writing.

Below are seen as merits:

- Previous experience as a chemical/gas technician at a scientific/industrial facility or
equivalent.
- Previous experience in providing training in practical gas handling and gas safety related topics.
- Trained in Swagelok equipment.
- Experience in maintenance of pressurized systems.
- Experience in maintenance and portable/stationary gas detection equipment.
- Experience in orbital welding.
- Basic understanding of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (PID)
- Basic knowledge in AutoCAD or equivalent
- Proactive and solution focused person.
- Independent in executing operational tasks.

MAX IV is a Swedish national large-scale research laboratory hosted by Lund University. It provides scientists from Sweden as well as internationally, with state-of-the-art instrumentation for research in areas such as engineering, physics, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology.
