https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reuri4lT7jI) - a co-op smuggler's paradise game set in the fictional world of 1970s Bayan. Contraband is a brand-new IP published by Xbox Game Studios. Avalanche Studios is the division dedicated to ambitious, externally published, AAA open-world games like the Just Cause series, Mad Max and Rage 2.
On this project, we want to push animation quality a lot further than we have done previously, and this will require us to take our animation technology to the bleeding edge. Sounds like fun to you? Do you feel you have the skills for this? Then we would love to hear from you!
The Position
As a gameplay animation programmer, you work together with animators, designers and other programmers to realize animation in the game. The work mostly involves characters, but also touches other objects like weapons and gadgets. This requires you to use your knowledge and experience of the available tools (blending, IK, layering, ragdolls etc) to come up with the technical solutions to realize gameplay, locomotion, interactions etc. Since we're using a proprietary engine, it's a plus to have a broad knowledge of animation tech and procedural animation.
You will also use and extend existing systems when possible and build new tools and features when needed. As well as assisting animators in translating game design into technical animation design, help and educate game programmers working with animation-related features and aid technical animators in implementing animations into the game.
Required Qualifications
• Excellent communications skills
• Solid knowledge of game animation systems e.g. state machines, layering, locomotion, blending, and parameterization
• Experience working with IK, ragdolls and / or other procedural techniques
• Strong math skills, knowledge of vectors, matrices and linear algebra.
• Able to write readable, robust and performant code in C/C++
• A keen eye for animation
Bonus Qualifications
• Experience in working with characters in a multiplayer game
• Experience with machine learning for animation
• Experience working with game physics
• Experience of profiling and optimization
Employee promise
We provide goals, instead of instructions, and the opportunity to do the best work of your career.
