We perform embedded software related R&D activities in order to secure key properties like safety, energy efficiency and reliability of products from the Volvo Group and other selected customers. Our engineers cover a wide range of multidisciplinary engineering sciences.
Due to a growing interest in secure and dependable systems and increased focus on safety we are now looking for a Functional Safety Engineer proficient in dependability for embedded systems. Dependability in this context is seen as the ability of a system to deliver a service that can be trusted, i.e., that one can rely on the system to uphold its functionality to a high degree even in the event of faults occurring. We base our view of dependability on the definitions put forth by Avi?ienis et al. in the paper Basic Concepts and Taxonomy of Dependable and Secure Computing (published in Transaction on Dependable and Secure Computing, 2004).
Job description:
The upcoming standard ISO26262 about functional safety is changing the way the automotive industry is developing systems and it has an impact on the vehicle?s safety properties. We are looking for a person that can lead Volvo?s research activities for distributed dependable computer systems. The job involves leading projects performing research on techniques for making the electronic architecture more fault tolerant as well as disseminating the dependability area within the Volvo Group.
So, if you are interested in joining a team developing tomorrow?s software solutions for commercial vehicles you have the possibility to be in charge of dependability issues making sure that our products for electronic architectures are safe and reliable. Our products span through all phases from research demonstrators to product industrialisation within the area of embedded automotive real-time systems. In your work you will have a large possibility to influence the technical solutions for upcoming products. You will also have the opportunity to meet and interact with international (and national) colleagues both within and outside Volvo so it is important that you are a team player and to possess the dependability attitude and passion.
Qualifications:
PhD degree (or equivalent experience)
Extensive knowledge about dependability and fault tolerance
Experience from implementing embedded systems, if possible systems with dependability requirements
Experience from leading project teams
Fluent in English, both spoken and written
Interest and knowledge of fault injection principles is beneficial as well as knowledge about standards such as AUTOSAR, IEC 61508 and ISO 26262.
The job is dependent of a good network within and outside the company; therefore your ability to communicate effectively and to establish and maintain such networks in different areas in a global multi-cultural environment is essential.
