Function tester and developer, Powertrain System Safety

The section Powertrain On Board Diagnostic and Dependability, within Complete Powertrain, has the mission to ensure that the development of the next generation engines reflects our brand essence of 'Designed Around You' and that all legal and customer attributes regarding OBD and Powertrain dependability is met. All activities aim to deliver world class OBD and dependability. Currently the section includes approximately 110 employees, organized in seven groups.

The group Powertrain System Safety is responsible for system safety development and related diagnostic monitoring of complete propulsion systems. Our delivery consists of software functionality that identifies inaccuracies, prevents critical events and mitigates the effect of a fault. We apply highest standard when it comes to minimise customer impact, focus on robust system design is therefore crucial.

As a Function tester and developer engineer within Powertrain Diagnostics and Dependability, you will be part of a highly creative section that continuously develops and implements diagnostic and safety monitoring concepts to fit different vehicle applications. This is a challenging role, which requires a thorough understanding of safety monitoring. In this role, you will develop extensive function testing and developing skills from a safety point of view. Your main task will be testing and developing safety monitors and make sure that the workflow of the development, testing and verification follows the ISO26262 standard. This will be performed in close cooperation with control system development teams across Volvo Cars.


You will work in quick and fast moving environment. Working on this position, ideas and concepts can easily be tested in real life, in real vehicles and on the road. After putting software together and download to a car, we verify our systems by going on expeditions around the world to find interesting environments that will stress our systems.

Required qualifications

* Master of Science within Mechatronic, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physic or similar with experience on relevant field
* Experience within software development and embedded powertrain/vehicle control systems
* Fluent in English, spoken and written
* Driving license "B"


Meritorious qualifications

* Knowledge of interfacing systems to optimize vehicle level
* Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to contribute in defining, developing and roll-out of technologies
* Capability and willingness to train, monitor and document technical knowledge
* Demonstrated high level of communication skills and teamwork
* Knowledge of system safety and monitoring methods

Further, we need you to be positive with great communicational skills, due to strong collaborations and cross-functional work. Moreover, we are searching for someone who is eager to learn and transfer the knowledge to others as well. The position requires very structured and organized individual with good documentation skills.
