About the role

In the environmental chemistry group, based in Stockholm, we are now looking for an expert in the computational modelling of environmental fate and (eco)toxicity endpoints for chemical substances. At IVL we are actively working with projects on early warning predictions, chemical hazard screenings, risk assessments and life cycle based alternative assessments. All of which require large amounts of high-quality data on a wide range of endpoints.

We are now looking for an expert that can support these projects by using existing modelling tools (e.g. QSAR based models) to derive these endpoints, critically review the performance of existing models and develop new tools and workflows for endpoint predictions based on e.g. machine learning that can be used by others.

Depending on the project, you will be working together with experts at IVL in analytical chemistry, (eco)toxicology, machine learning, chemistry, environmental fate and transport, life cycle based alternative assessments and chemical policy.

Your background

To succeed in your role, you will need:

• A PhD on a topic coupled to the computational modelling of chemicals and the prediction of endpoints relevant to environmental fate and (eco)toxicology.

• A good ability to express yourself orally and in writing in English

• Experience in working with Python and/or R

It is a plus, if you also have:

• A good ability to express yourself orally and in writing in Swedish

• Previous experience of working on a project basis

• Previous experience in building data pipelines and software applications that can be used by others

• A good statistical knowledge

Your personal characteristics

As a person, you are proactive, take responsibility and have a well-structured way of working as well as good ability to work both independently and in a group. We put great emphasis on your personal characteristics.

What we offer you

We work in a creative and developing environment where everyone has a large part of their own responsibility and good opportunities for personal and professional development. As an employee at IVL, you become part of a workplace that values diversity, collaboration, innovation and commitment. There is a wonderful community here with a sports club, art association, parties, pubs and other activities. We sit in activity-based premises. At IVL, you get the opportunity to work on your sustainability commitment for real!
