At AstraZeneca we win through science, it's at the heart of our every success. That science is only possible when we work together - we'll always make sure you're clear about how your role is connected to our wider mission to show what science can do. Do you want to join our AstraZeneca journey?

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Associate Principal Scientist to join us in the Mechanistic and Structural Biology department within the Discovery Sciences organization in Gothenburg, Sweden. Our focus is to provide quality data to drive chemistry optimization in drug discovery projects. Leading from the bench, our new colleague will combine good communication and team-working skills with a passion for scientific excellence, delivery and innovation.

With science at its heart, this is the place where breakthroughs born in the lab become transformative medicines - for the world's most complex diseases.

What you will do:
This is a senior lab-based role with focus to support our drug discovery projects with quantitative measurements of intracellular protein levels and their turnover using mass spectrometry to understand response to treatment. Of relevance to this role is the determination of absolute levels of a chosen (targeted) set of proteins of interest using suitable technology. We will also rely on you to take an active role in the local and global leadership teams within the department as well as to lead multi-disciplinary initiatives and positively influence our continuous scientific development.

The successful candidate has demonstrated expertise within protein mass spectrometry and sample preparation from both in vitro and in vivo samples. You 'll also be expected to take initiatives towards improvement of novel sample preparation routines and to work strategically towards improving capacity and throughput of measurements.

Essential in the role:

* Ph.D. and extensive postdoctoral experience within a relevant scientific field.
* Expertise in biological mass spectrometry applied in drug target occupancy, protein turnover measurements and absolute quantification.
* Proven experience of working with and trouble-shooting high-resolution protein mass spectrometry equipment.
* Extensive experience in protein sample preparation from cell lysates and tissues and a thorough understanding of available approaches for enrichment and labelling.
* Proven ability in providing technical leadership and mentorship to others.
* Scientific visibility and leadership through project contributions and external publications.

We also believe that the person taking on this role enjoys collaboration and building trusting relationships with your colleagues. You should have ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary research environment and share our passion for science. An external network of relevance to our field is a great plus. We strongly trust that everyone contributes with a unique set of competencies.

Desirable in the role:

* Expertise in protein turnover measurements using the SILAC approach.
* Track record of identifying and adopting scientific and technical advances.
* Excellent problem-solving skills, not limited to own area of expertise.
