Job Description
Staff function R&D, within Strategic Development, looking for an experienced R&D Engineer, Modeling & Optimization. The position is located in Solna or Älvkarleby.
Vattenfall R&D is responsible for business-driven technical development that creates added value for the company and helps realizing Vattenfall's strategy.
The position is within the section Infrastructure Laboratory which develops cost-effective, safe & sustainable solutions to improve the infrastructure of Vattenfall assets including Hydro, Wind, Nuclear, nuclear waste repositories, Heat and Distribution. With this hiring our aim is to strengthen the team Flexible Generation that supports Business Unit (BU) Hydro as well as Business Area (BA) Markets in optimizing the operation and maintenance of our hydropower fleet to meet the increasingly volatile electricity market.
Tasks and responsibilities
Your task will be divided into two main parts, one part being to develop an internal Matlab based optimization tool for analyses of hydropower systems (typically a river) and the other part being to perform different types of analyses utilizing this tool and other external optimization tools.
The work may also involve development of simulation models and control strategies for existing or future parts or an energy system, e.g. hybrid systems composed of combinations of power generating units (hydro, wind, solar and/or batteries).
Our work is carried out in an agile team of about 4-5 persons and includes frequent contacts with mainly internal customers and stakeholders within Vattenfall and sometimes also external customers.

Qualifications
Qualifications and personal skills
Master of Science (preferably Engineering Physics, Energy Systems or equivalent, alternatively Computer Science if focused on mathematical optimization and/or data analytics).
PhD in modeling, simulation, control and/or optimization is considered a merit
Well-developed skills and an interest in programming and software system development
Interest and knowledge in energy systems in general and hydropower in particular is a merit
Fluency in English, both spoken and written. Beneficial if a good command in Swedish.
