Experienced CAE Engineer Driver Behaviour-Safety Centre

At Research & Development you will be a key contributor to the next generation outstanding luxury cars from Volvo. Together with other engineers around the world, you and your team will create innovative human-centric car technology that makes life less complicated and more enjoyable for people. Are you interested in design and connected car technology? Do you share our passion for people, the environment and our urge to create a superior driving experience? Research and Development is the place for you to prosper.

Volvo Cars Safety Centre is an analysis and competence center within Volvo Cars which drives the development of Volvo Cars core value Safety. We cover the areas of passive and active safety together with security and we have state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. The Safety Centre is responsible for strategic safety and requirement development, traffic accident research and safety analysis within both testing and virtual development. The development is performed in close collaboration with both our internal design departments and external suppliers in a dynamic and international environment.

At this new position within Safety Centre as an Experienced CAE Engineer-Driver Behaviour you will focus on adding additional knowledge in the field of active safety and simulation of driver's behavior in normal and critical situations. A key element will be to develop driver behavior models by examination of field data (e.g. pre-crash data), empirical analysis of mechanisms, and derivation of values for model parameters. Virtual development, testing, and verification of active safety and automated driving systems on real crash and pre-crash data is essential to increase precision in development, decrease lead times, and reach the Volvo Cars Safety Vision of vehicles that will not crash. A detailed understanding of the pre-crash phase is essential because active safety and automated driving systems act to avoid crashes within this pre-crash phase. Computer simulations of the pre-crash phase need to be implemented in models based on reconstruction of real pre-crash phases (including the crash). Computer simulated models of the situation and driver behaviour is needed to implement a virtual verification of active safety and automated driving systems requirements.

Main responsibilities

• The main task and responsibility will be to develop and validate quantitative models for driver behavior that can be applied in computer simulations for evaluation, verification and tuning of active safety systems
• You will perform experimental and virtual simulations of real world scenarios with respect to crash avoidance and crash mitigation performance and you will analyse the results
• You will be responsible for the method development and the virtual simulations within our research projects.
• As CAE engineer you will participate in method development and requirement setting. You will have regular contact with engineers from the product development departments
