The European Spallation Source ERIC will design, build and operate a multi-disciplinary, large-scale research infrastructure based on the world’s most powerful neutron source. European Spallation Source, ESS, will provide scientists with unique and powerful neutron scattering instruments for the study of a large range of materials – from polymers and pharmaceuticals to membranes and molecules. ESS project is partnered by 17 European countries, and hosted by Sweden and Denmark.

The Administration Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for Head of Human Resources.

ESS HR division consists of 12 employees and the work environment is characterised by fast growth, high rate of work, and a challenging international atmosphere with highly academic employees. ESS currently has approximately 365 employees and represents over 45 nationalities. During the coming 4 years ESS will grow to 450 employees. The main competences ESS will recruit are researchers, engineers and administrative staff. Many of our recruitments are international and include relocation of families to Sweden.

Description of your main responsibilities

The Head of HR will be responsible for the entire field of Human Resources to support the ESS project but also in preparation for the transition to an organization in operation.
The role is varied and you and your team are responsible for strategic as well as operational HR work. Your scope will cover to lead and coach a dedicated HR team, organised in two groups: HR general group and HR Business Partner - Recruitment & Relocation group. You will be overall responsible and accountable for managing and developing the HR team according to the ESS HR strategy ensuring the HR strategy meets the ESS overall strategy which includes organisational development, Competence and resource planning, compensation & benefit and salary structures rehabilitation and absenteeism, recruitment, training, implementation of Group HR initiatives and projects as well as leadership development. Your responsibilities will also involvedriving standardisation and continuous improvement of HR processes and policies and the very important role when it comes to change management. The HR Division is also responsible for maintaining a good relationship and communication with the local unions.

You will be in close collaboration with the Administration Director and support in HR related questions as well as being part of the Administration Directorates management team.

What we expect from you

We believe you have a university degree in Human Resources or equivalent and have the following experience:

• At least 10 years of experience in Human Resources Management, with a major focus on Leadership Development, Talent development, Retention and Performance Development including significant experience of working in a large, complex, international and fast paced organization
• At least 5 years of proven experience leading and developing HR teams.
• Proven track record in working strategically with HR programs and policies that impacts the organization
• Demonstrated knowledge/experience of Swedish and Danish employment legislation and other applicable compliance regulations
• Experienced in facilitation, communication and presentation skills
• Previous experience from working in a similar scientific environment is strongly preferred
• Fluent in English and excellent writing skills; knowledge of Swedish and other European languages is an advantage
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of programs;

Duration & Location
The position is permanent and your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
