The Construction Project Management Division at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Site Deputy Project Manager.

Description of division

The Construction Project Management Division is the department responsible for project management, planning, costing and risk management for the development and construction of the European Spallation Source.

The Deputy Project Manager reports to the ESS Site Project Manager, who is responsible to lead and manage the ESS Construction project. They will work closely with the subproject managers and support teams in achieving project goals. And attend ESS management meetings on behalf of the Site Project Manager when the Site Project Manager is absent.

Description of main responsibilities

The Deputy Project Manager will play a significant role in the success of the ESS Project, and be responsible for helping the PM meet the project performance goals, scope, cost, schedule, and deliverables of the project team and, together with the other upper management members, for the entire ESS enterprise. Also acting to help facilitate integration of work across the subprojects; monitoring, communicating, and reporting on progress; and managing project changes. The Deputy is a key member within the PM leadership team. Working with the PM, the Deputy is responsible for building strong collaborative working relationships with in-kind partners supporting the ESS project.

Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Support the ESS Project Manager in managing the ESS Construction Project
• Support and assist the project planning team, Installation Manager, and Technical Coordinators
• Assist the PM with ESS project processes, tools, and reporting needs
• Represent the ESS PM at various station meetings when he is not available
• Assist the PM with project changes and interventions to achieve project's technical performance goals on-time and within budget
• Help develop project communications during reviews and ESS governance meetings

Qualifications

Viable candidates need to have a Bachelor's degree in engineering or physical science. Advanced university degree is preferred., physics or relevant discipline, and the following work experience:

• Experience in leading teams and efforts associated with building state-of-the-art facility infrastructures is required; involvement with accelerator, target or scientific instrument facilities is desirable
• Experience working in collaboration with partner institutions
• Experience in working in an international environment is essential, as are excellent communication skills and the ability to interact productively with the staff in the ESS Directorates
• At least five years of experience in project management, including a significant period working in a large, complex, international and fast-paced organisation
• A proven track record in delivering change and working strategically with programs and policies
• Demonstrated experience of project planning with strong analytical and writing skills
• Demonstrated ability to organize and execute on a variety of assignments and action plans; driving for results and managing complex tasks
• Fluent in English with excellent writing skills, knowledge of Swedish and/or other European languages is an advantage

Duration & Location

The contract is permanent, but with a limitation of 5 years in this specific role. There will be a six months initial probationary period.

Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
