Equipment Engineer - Hot forming, Olofström

The department Stamping CAE & Die Development is responsible for all CAE stamping feasibility performed within Volvo Car Group. The department is a part of the Stamping Engineering section within Manufacturing Engineering (ME). The department Stamping CAE & Die development includes 18 persons totally, of which 10 persons are working as analysis engineers with sheet metal forming simulations. We have two technical specialists, Research & Advanced Engineering Sheet Metal Forming Simulations and Stamping Feasibility. In addition we have responsibility for Die Material development, Stamping Dies standards, Simulation of automation and two Subject matter experts within stamping presses and stamping automation. We are now expanding our capabilities within the hot forming area. Do you want to join us?

The Equipment engineer - Hot forming has a deep knowledge regarding stamping of the hot formed components. The Equipment Engineer - Hot forming acts as the interface between Stamping engineering and our production, Volvo Cars R&D, universities, institutes, material suppliers, the suppliers of equipment etc. Hot forming should be considered as a complete process since the whole process influences the final part properties and the Equipment Engineer is responsible for the specific subject.

Main responsibilities

• Drive the development of the hot forming processes, optimized for cost, quality and robustness
• Secure the overall process knowledge regarding the hot forming process
• Provide support in all technical matters relating to the hot forming process
• Facilitate technical interchange across the company and external partners
• Development of strategies in the area of hot forming
• Creation and development of technical input, feasibility guidelines, process parameters, specifications for the production equipment and standards
• Secure feedback and documentation of performance of new processes, in order to create lean hot forming processes with respect to, Quality, Technique, Cost, Timing, Productivity, Environment and Ergonomics
• Development of specifications for procurement of the hot forming processes, to secure that component requirements and process requirements are meet
• Lead and coordinate the Hot forming systems technology group
• Mentoring other technical employees who need expert advice to increase hot forming skills within Volvo Car Group
• Work with Advanced Engineering projects and perform investigations regarding hot forming and lead the up-front engineering work

Required qualifications

• MSc within Metallurgy, Material Science, Mechanical engineering or equivalent
• Experience from engineering work regarding Hot forming and Thermo-mechanical processing
• Practical experience from troubleshooting problems in the hot forming processes
• Fluent in Swedish and English both written and spoken
• Meritorious is knowledge in material science and coatings, both theoretical and practical
• An asset is knowledge in stamping process, stamping dies and experience from Forming simulation/CAE calculations
