Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment
The Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment (www.slu.se/aquatic-sciences) is working with applied environmental science, with a national responsibility for assessing the condition of Swedish surface waters with respect to water chemistry, pollution and aquatic biota. The department has some 140 employees. The research focuses on geochemical and hydrological processes, aquatic ecology and biodiversity, microbial ecology as well as on environmental chemistry and aquatic ecotoxicology. The department is part of a Soil-Water-Environment cluster, a competence centre for landscape-level processes placed in Uppsala. The breadth of expertise among the 300 members in combination with a well-equipped infrastructure creates a unique platform for high quality research as well as environmental monitoring and assessment.

Duties:
As an environmental analysis specialist, you will have an active and leading role in the department's work to develop tools, processes and an organization for environmental DNA-based environmental monitoring (eDNA) of biodiversity, invasive species and aquatic ecosystem status. The holder of this position will primarily be responsible for establishing a robust and flexible laboratory infrastructure with efficient processes and relevant methods. The duties also include design of national and international environmental monitoring programs, compilation and analysis of various types of environmental data as well as project reporting and information exchange with researchers and stakeholders.

Qualifications:
Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent with a focus on aquatic ecology, environmental science or a related field is required. We also expect applicants to have a very good understanding of modern DNA-based methods and practical experience of using this methodological approach for mapping biodiversity. You should have good organizational skills, be structured, driven and find it easy to compile collected information in written report form. Good ability to communicate in Swedish and English, both written and oral, is a requirement. Other merits that will be considered in this recruitment are practical experience with geographic information systems (GIS) and competence in ecosystem research.
