Malmö University is an innovative, international and socially engaged higher education institution with a multidisciplinary approach to learning, grounded in academic values. We encourage the growth of both people and ideas, striving towards a more equal and sustainable society. Malmö University is Sweden's youngest university and currently going through a dynamic period of development, where communication forms a vital component.
The Communications Department
The Communications Department works with external and internal communication, both strategically and operatively, in Swedish and in English. We plan, create and evaluate communication according to the needs of the University and its various target groups. We develop communications systems and provide support to management, as well as working with student recruitment, research communications and PR. We also work with communications efforts related to the University's collaboration with external stakeholders, and official ceremonies and concerts. The department consists of approximately 30 staff members and is part of Joint University Administration and Services.
Job description
You will be part of the unit for internal communications and management support, while also being a key member of the team responsible for English language communication across the University's many target groups. Your tasks will include: identifying the needs of international staff members when it comes to communication; planning and executing various communications tasks; editing; translating and proofreading texts (everything from formal guidelines to news pieces, as well as both online and print copy). You will also be writing your own news articles and texts for different channels, although primarily for the University web page. Additionally, you will offer language support and hold workshops for staff on writing in English for different audiences.
Your experience
We expect you to be a native English speaker and have a degree in a field relevant to the position, such as communication, English, linguistics, or similar. To succeed in this role, you should have experience in translating from Swedish to English at an advanced level, as well as communicating and editing English language content for different audiences and purposes, using various channels. You should also have experience in web editing, be quick to learn new systems, and be proficient in reading and speaking Swedish.
Previous experience working with complex and inclusive communication is an advantage to this position, as is proficiency in digital/social media, managing development projects, and a prior knowledge of higher education in Sweden and abroad.
When recruiting for this position, we emphasise personal qualities and value self-sufficiency and the ability to manage and meet deadlines. The successful candidate will work independently as well as being a capable team player. The position involves contact with many different stakeholders, and we expect you to be sociable and flexible.
